i used to think candles were one of those things you got for the person who has everything, or to say a meek, polite thank you to somebody you barely know. lately, i have began to appreciate them far more. a topic of debate for most, their use in religious ceremonies is touching andĀ representativeĀ of a more simple way of life. their hollow amber glows reassure and calm the soul, a glorified spark of splendour and elegance. one lit candle normally goes unnoticed, but an abundance of them can dominate and colour a room. i would love to sit around lit candles on a daily basis, and watch their shimmering molten pools of wax glisten underneath the flames, and witness how quickly those pools cool back to their solid forms. it’s an interesting process.
