following on from my last post (it got a like, i’m going to take that as permission to continue), today i spent just over £90 on toys and ledges and perches for my degus so i could bedizen their cage. i rescued my degus - a chap came into work and told me he was moving to australia and couldn’t take any of his pets, and we have an ‘adoption centre’ in store where you can basically dump any small animal you no longer want if we have the room, and we try and rehouse them. he brought in a bunny and these two little blights. i’d thought about getting degus for a while, but he just presented the perfect economical solution, since all i had to provide was a small donation and then i was free to take them. they’re in a wire cage, fairly sizeable, but prior to tonight all their ledges and areas for them to walk on were wire, and that can cause considerable health problems in degus. so i got them loads of wooden things instead, and let them run riot around my room while i redecorated. once i’d finished they climbed back in all by themselves - if that’s not approval, i don’t know what is. their cage looks pretty bad-ass now, and they’re clambering all over everything and making the sweetest little noises. wonderful boys, my thomas and hero.
